My father was also a handyman and builder and I worked with him often as a kid. I was a cross-rated machinist’s mate and boiler technician in the Navy, which is all about plumbing.
I went to San Jose City College to complete a 4-year Machinist Apprenticeship, retired as a 20-year Journeyman Prototype Machinist and Toolmaker in 1999 due to the passing of my wife. I had a two-year-old son and could no longer work 12-hour days, six days a week.
I went to Chabot/Las Positas Junior College in my 30’s, trying to learn something other than Machinist skills. To pay for that, I worked part-time as an Apartment Complex Maintenance Manager. I did a lot of the services I offer, now.
We moved to Big Bear Lake, CA shortly after that and I began taking odd jobs working for people in my church who recommended me to others, and it expanded very quickly. I worked for one contractor who was building a new house and 3 bay garage, from marking the grounds to shingles and everything in between. I learned a lot on this job!
When things got a little slow, I worked for Destination Big Bear, a property management company. I have fixed just about every little thing that goes wrong with a rental. I’m sure you short-term rental owners already know quite a bit about that!
My landlady passed away and her son wanted to sell the house; there was not a single rental available in Big Bear Lake at the time, so I moved to Truckee, CA and started working for Vacasa, taking side jobs to start my own business, there.
Four years later I wanted to move here to Park City for personal reasons so posted some questions about the need for my services on Facebook and got a huge response. I moved here about 2 ½ years ago.
I’ve worked for several property management companies in California and here in the Park City area, and many private homeowners. Guest services and courtesy are number one priority when there’s a problem with a unit!

I am honest about my abilities; if I don’t feel confident that I can do a job I will tell you, whether due to the size of the job, scheduling, or my skill level for that particular job. My rate is $65/hr with a 1 hour minimum charge. I do not charge for drive time unless it’s to haul or if I must make an urgent special trip for parts other than locally. I do not charge for time shopping for an item if the time was unsuccessful.
Utah places limits on plumbing and electrical work. The way I read the regulations, it says I can’t do new plumbing or electrical but I can do “incidental” repairs, meaning dripping faucets, running or leaking toilets, disposals, clogs, shower trim, faucets, etc.
Like I said above, this list is not complete; I do pretty much whatever needs to be done!
